The Walkway is pleased to advise the latest ‘Stories from the Plaques’ article is now online.

The fourth article recounts the life and service of LTCOL Clara (Clare) Shumack, who was Matron in charge of Austrian Army Nursing Service (AANS) sisters on board the 2/1st Australian Hospital Ship (AHS) Manunda, from 1940 until 1944. She then became Matron at the 113th Australian General Hospital (AGH) Concord in September 1945. In between, Clare encountered (with fellow Manunda crew and nursing staff) great personal risk, including during the devastating first bombing raids on Darwin in February 1942.
