Reg Card OAM: A fitting farewell to a life of service
A large crowd attended the Walkway on 3 September 2026 to remember a life of service for our dear friends, Reg Chard OAM. Three speakers provided tributes to Reg, his service in the 55/53 Battalion in WW2, plus his life post-war including his many years as a Volunteer Guide at the Walkway.
We welcomed Reg’s family who joined us on a bright spring day to honour long life, from humble beginnings, to serving in PNG, and raising his family with wife Betty, and culminating with his work with schools and community groups as a Volunteer Guide at the Walkway for many years.
The Hon. David Harris MP, NSW Minister for Veterans, Brigadier Vince Williams CSC, President of RSL NSW and Alice Kang OAM, KTMW Board Director all spoke eloquently about aspects of Reg’s life of 102 years. The choir from North Strathfield Public School provided a touching musical piece. Students from Bethany College provided a poem reading.
At the end of the service, Reg’s family and other dignitaries lit a candle, followed by all those attending who laid a poppy in his honour.
Lest we forget.
