Friends of Kokoda ‘Beyond the Battlefield’ talk series commences in February

PUBLISHED January 2024

Join us in 2024 for fascinating talks with a military history focus!

Beginning on Saturday 10 February, the Walkway’s ‘Beyond the battlefield’ talk series recommences for 2024.

To date, guest speakers have been confirmed for talks in February, April and June. Talks for the latter half of the year are being organised, and once details are confirmed, they will be promoted widely.

For our valued Friends of Kokoda (FoK) program, admission is free, while for others a small charge of $5.00 is levied.

The first talk on 10 February is being undertaken by the renowned historian and author, Dr Tom Lewis OAM. Dr Lewis will present on the ‘1942 Midget Submarine attack in Sydney’, revealing the failures of senior Allied commanders before and during the attack.

Future talks will be held on:

  • 13 April: John Tannock: ‘The installation of a monument to commemorate the Battle of Oivi/Gorari’ and;
  • 15 June: Dr Jan McLeod: ‘War Crime or Legitimate Act of War? The 1942 Japanese bombing of Allied medical establishments at Soputa in Papua’.

See here for a brochure on these talks, or view the Military History Presentations page, where payment can be made for non-FoK.

We hope to see you soon at the Walkway!
