Australian War Memorial (AWM)

The AWM’s purpose is to commemorate the sacrifice of those Australians who have died in war or on operational service, and those who have served our nation in times of conflict. Its mission is leading remembrance and understanding of Australia’s wartime experience.

Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA)

DVA provides government programs, support, services and information for war veterans, serving and former serving members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), Australian Federal Police and their families.

National Archives of Australia (NAA)

The NAA collects records of Australian government decisions and actions as evidence. They connect Australians with the nation’s memory, their identity and history.

Office of Australian War Graves (OAWG)

The OAWG has three roles:

  1. to act as an agent of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) to maintain war cemeteries and memorials and individual war graves (in Australia and the region) for members of the Commonwealth forces, who died during the First and Second World Wars;
  2. to commemorate eligible veterans who died post-war, and whose deaths were caused by their war service; and
  3. to build and maintain official Australian memorials overseas.

Register of War Memorials in New South Wales

The NSW War Memorials Register is a database of war memorials in New South Wales. It currently holds more than 3,600 war memorial records, and more than 200,000 veteran records.

Returned and Services League (RSL) of Australia

The RSL helps veterans and their families by offering care, financial assistance and advocacy. They lead the nation in commemorative services that help all Australians to remember the fallen.

World War Two Nominal Roll

The World War Two Nominal Roll was created by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) to honour and commemorate some one million people who served in Australia’s defence forces and the Merchant Navy during this conflict.

The Roll provides access to an index of information from over one million records of servicemen and women who were in Australia’s defence forces and the Merchant Navy during World War Two.
