Centenarians’ event @ the Walkway

PUBLISHED November 2023

The Walkway was proud to celebrate significant birthday milestones for three centenarians closely associated with the New Guinea campaign.

On Tuesday 30 October, the KTMW Board was pleased to organise and celebrate significant birthday milestones for three special individuals with deep connections to the New Guinea/Kokoda campaigns.

Our special guests were:

  • Bruce Robertson (aged 103): an RAAF veteran of the Kokoda campaign, who celebrated his birthday earlier this year.
  • Peggy Dickinson (aged 100): widower of Kokoda veteran Ken Dickinson, and a long-time supporter of Concord Hospital and the Walkway. Peggy also celebrated her milestone birthday earlier in the year.
  • Reg Chard OAM (aged 100): a New Guinea veteran, who turned 100 on the day (and is the youngest of the three!).

Board Chair Jennifer Collins AM, and fellow Board members Cr Angelo Tsirekas and Alice Kang OAM joined the special group, together with NSW State Government members, Bruce, Peggy and Reg’s family members, Walkway volunteers, ex-service members and others to wish them all the best.

Such was the significance of the event, various media outlets also reported on the day’s celebrations.

We wish Bruce, Peggy and Reg all the best, and we thank you for your service!
