Beyond the Battlefield talk: Saturday 8 July @ 10.30am … ‘Game to give it a go’

PUBLISHED June 2023

Join us for our next exciting 'Beyond the Battlefield' talk: the Italian POW Rural Labour Scheme 1943-1945.

The ‘Beyond the Battlefield’ talk series continues on Saturday 8 July 2023.

The presenter is John Hall, the KTMW Project Officer, whose extensive doctoral research forms the basis for this talk.

‘Game to give it a go’ will focus on the unique rural labour scheme that operated in Australia from 1943 to 1945. The scheme saw Italian Prisoners of War (POWs) being sent to many rural locations in all states, where they were used to supplement the shortage in rural labour. The POWs were placed unguarded on farms, where they lived and worked alongside Australian farmers and their families.

Friends of Kokoda members can attend free of charge, and all others will be charged $5.00. Light refreshments will be served.

Further details on the talk series can be viewed here, or you may wish to download a flyer with further details, or email admin@kokodawalkway.com.au.

Start: 10.30am (arrive by 10.00am)

Cost: Friends of Kokoda are free; others $5.00.

RSVP: to admin@kokodawalkway.com.au by Wednesday 5 July (for catering purposes) or call 9166 0890 (office hours).

We hope you enjoy this talk, and look forward to seeing you at the Walkway!
