World War Two Nominal Roll
The World War Two Nominal Roll was created to honour and commemorate some one million people who served in Australia’s defence forces and the Merchant Navy during this conflict.
The Nominal Roll provides all Australians with access to an index of information from approximately one million records of servicemen and women who were in Australia’s defence forces and the Merchant Navy during World War Two.
Australian War Memorial
The Memorial established its first website in 1996. In 1997 it was decided to embark on a redevelopment of the website. The redevelopment was a joint project between the Memorial and Digital Equipment Corporation. Digital provided the AltaVista Search technology and constructed the Memorial’s Collection search pages.
DVA exists to serve members of Australia’s veteran and defence force communities, war widows and widowers, widows and dependents, through programs of care, compensation, commemoration and defence support services.
Holding on to our history – that’s what the National Archives of Australia does. We care for valuable Commonwealth government records and make them available for present and future generations to use. Our recordkeeping standards help government to account to the public, ensuring that evidence is available to support people’s rights and entitlements and that future generations will have a meaningful record of the past.
Australian War Graves
The Office of Australian War Graves (OAWG) is responsible for
- the administration and maintenance of the graves throughout Australia and the South Pacific as agent for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission
- the provision and maintenance in perpetuity of memorials in Australia to those who have died in wars since WW2 and those who have died post-war of war-related causes, and
the construction and maintenance of memorials overseas at sites of military significance to Australia.
To ensure that programs are in place for the well-being, care, compensation and commemoration of serving and ex-service Defence Force members and their dependents; and promote Government and community awareness of the need for a secure, stable and progressive Australia.
