"The eyes of the Western world are upon you. I have every confidence in you and your men. Good luck, don’t stop"

General Douglas MacArthur October 3rd 1942, Papua New Guinea

The Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway is a living, growing memorial, an educational resource and a principal site of commemoration honouring all those who fought and served for Australia during World War Two.

It forms a link with the past for today’s and future generations.

About the Walkway

A principal focus of the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway is on the sacrifices made during key battles which took place in 1942-43 along the Kokoda Track and other locations in Papua New Guinea.

The Walkway is a peaceful and tranquil memorial featuring lush tropical vegetation, in stark contrast to the brutal and inhospitable conditions endured by those who fought in New Guinea. The Memorial Rose Garden features plaques dedicated to those who served.

Entry is free, and open to the public.

The Walkway conducts formal commemorative services for Anzac Day, Victory in the Pacific (VP) Day and Kokoda Day, plus other smaller services. All are welcome to attend any of these events.
