INFORMATION ABOUT THE MEMORIAL

The Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway links Concord Hospital with Rhodes railway station, a distance of approximately 800metres.

The concept for this living Memorial was launched in 1994 under the "Australia Remembers" program. Initiated by Concord Repatriation General Hospital, the project enjoys a strong partnership with other community groups such as the Council of City of Canada Bay, Concord Rotary, and the Returned and Services League of Australia (NSW Branch)

Objectives of the Memorial
  • To provide a lasting Memorial to all veterans who served in World War II with a particular focus on the South West Pacific area;
  • To provide an educational experience on this magnificent part of our Australian heritage for current and future generations;
  • To improve access to the hospital for patients, visitors and staff who travel by rail to Rhodes station;
  • To provide facilities for healthy lifestyle programs and act as a tourist attraction for visitors to the region.
